Day 287 Hyannis Village Christmas Stroll 2013

Hyannis Village Christmas Stroll will be held on  Saturday, December 7th, rain or shine. Activities will revolve around four major events on Main Street and the Waterfront.

At the JFK Hyannis Museum is the 8th Annual “Spectacle of Trees” where 17 beautifully decorated Christmas trees, provided by Cape Cod Charitable FunRaisers, will be raffled off with the proceeds going to support local non-profits.  Viewing and bidding begins Friday, December 6th with the winners being drawn on Saturday, December 14th.

Saturday’s events kick off with a 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. seating with the family favorite “Breakfast with Santa” at the British Beer Company. Tickets are available at the British Beer Company and the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce for $8.00 each and must be purchased in advance.

Throughout the day, the Main Street Community will host a variety of holiday events. Santa will be arriving at noon by antique fire truck in front of Rockland Trust and Bella of Cape Cod. There will be free activities up and down Main Street ranging from a Cookie Stroll Contest to bands playing, carolers caroling, an international food sampling and a free magic show. There will also be a Petting Zoo, a Christmas cookie decorating, free Duckmobiles rides, a Window Display Contest, free horse drawn carriage rides in front of Kandy Korner and a Treasure Hunt with fun prizes as we try to locate Santa’s lost workshop keys. Christmas Strollers can also get their faces painted at Sturgis Charter School and enjoy holiday arts & crafts at Katie’s Ice Cream and Sturgis Charter School.

Hyannis Main Street is also proud to give back to the community with the Christmas Stroll. The Hyannis Public Library will have their Hat & Mitten tree up. Bring a winter wear donation- hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, sweaters, jackets, etc. to benefit adults and children in the local community in need. Jewelcraft is accepting new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. Cape Cod Harley Davidson is partnering with Cape Cod Cares 4 the Troops again, come by Cape Cod Harley Davidson and create a Christmas card for the troops serving our country. Katie’s Ice Cream will be donating 10% of their sales on December 7 to the Make A Wish Foundation. TD Bank will have their WOW Truck set up in front of Fresh Ketch Seafood ‘n’ Steak and will be collecting non-perishable food donations.

In addition to these events, we are excited to introduce a couple of new features to the Christmas Stroll. On Saturday, December 7th & 14th from noon- 6pm, visitors can do their holiday shopping at our European-style Christmas market. Set up in front of the JFK Museum on Main Street, the Christmas Market will feature local merchants selling holiday gifts and other items in market stalls modeled after the immensely successful Christmas markets seen around Europe. On the day of the Christmas Stroll, guests can also watch Chip from South Cape Ice create a winter ice sculpture outside British Beer Company. When the ice sculpture is complete around 1pm, you can pose and take your picture with it.

At 3:30 p.m., weather permitting, everyone will gather at Hyannis Harbor to enjoy the beautifully decorated boat parade. See the boats enter the harbor as harbor businesses and homes light up to welcome Santa. There will be free parking at Bismore Park, plus food, drinks and music. At 5:30pm Santa makes an appearance to meet with the children and is surrounded by a selection of lively activities.

Following Santa’s Boat Parade, we invite everyone to the Hyannis Village Green for a tree lighting. The Hyannis Main Street BID will be decorating and lighting a 17’ Spruce, which will be officially turned on and lit up following the Christmas Stroll on December 7th at 6pm.
