Cape Cod Canal Concerts 2017 in Buzzard Bay MA

The Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce has scheduled another exciting year for the popular “Eastern Bank Concerts by the Canal” series. The 2017 concerts are held at  Bourne Community Serues  each Thursday evening during July and August from 6:30 p.m – 8:30 p.m., right along the banks of the Canal near the base of the Bourne Railroad Bridge.

New this year, we will be holding a Holiday Scavenger Hunt throughout the season. Game cards can be found on the reverse side of our holiday events calendar, which will be located at all of the businesses. Winners will receive a $25 Mashpee Commons gift card and will be entered into a raffle to win a $500 Mashpee Commons gift card! More details can be found on the game cards.

As always, the Commons will be festively decorated this holiday season and we will be lighting our twenty-foot holiday tree on November 25th at dusk. We will also have extended shopping hours in place for your convenience. Shops will be open Monday through Saturday 10am-8pm and Sunday 11am-5pm, November 25th through December 23rd.

Autumn in Olde Cotuit Harvestfest 2016

Autumn in Olde Cotuit will be held on Saturday September 24th 11am-3pm at  Historical Society of Santuit and Cotuit. Autumn in Olde Cotuit  Harvestfest 2016

This popular family event features artisans demonstrating 19th century crafts including: quilting, rug hooking, open hearth cooking in the Homestead, knot tying, Nantucket basket weaving, and more. Demonstrations by Wampanoag native people on open air cooking and jewelry making are also be featured on the grounds of the Dottridge Homestead, as well as the opportunity to see the oldest fire engine on Cape Cod.

Burgers and brats are served up on the grill as well as seasonal brews from Cape Cod Beer. Delicious home made pies will be available for purchase by the slice.

Tickets to the Fall Festival is $10 for HSSC members, $15 for non-members, and free for children under 10. Ticket price includes the price of admission, a meal, a drink, and all activities on the museum’s grounds.

The focus of the festival is, of course, our great Fried Scallop or Herb-roasted Chicken dinners, prepared by J & J Concessions, Roger & Hope Pinard of Lakeville, Massachusetts. You can enjoy your meal inside or take your meal outside, sit at a picnic table and listen to the great entertainment.

Yearly, over three tons of succulent Scallops are deep fried and served. Both meals are served with French Fries, Cole Slaw, Roll & Butter plus your choice of soda from our sponsor, Coca-Cola.

FOOD COURT
Enjoy non-seafood offerings at the Foodzilla on Wheels food truck such as Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Sausages, Chicken Tenders and Fries over the duration of the festival. From other vendors, you can partake of Chowder, Lobster Rolls and all types of salads. We also have a Raw Bar to be enjoyed with an ice cold beer or glass of wine. Make sure to save some room for dessert, you can delight in Strawberry Shortcake or Ice Cream. Cape Cod Inftatable Park provides a one-of-a-kind experience for the entire family, new to the Scallop Fest this year! For younger ages or those more timid, the “Kid Course” will consist of several large slides, moonwalks, an obstacle course, and several interactive rides including a Bungee Run, Velcro Wall, and Rock Wall.

For those looking for a bit more excitement, the “Challenge Course” will include interactive rides such as a rock wall, joust, krazy ladder, monkey swings, and more!

This infamous play examines the breakdown of the marriage of a middle-aged couple, Martha and George. Late one evening, after a university faculty party, they receive an unwitting younger couple, Nick and Honey, as guests and draw them into their bitter and frustrated relationship. Set in three acts with two 10-minute intermissions, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? won a Tony Award and a New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award, both for Best Play. The dialogue in the first act has been hailed by some critics as some of the greatest in all of American theatre.

Brazil’s diverse cultural background has inspired many celebrations and festivals known around the world, such as the Brazilian Carnival. On Saturday, Sept 17, Cotuit Center for the Arts and Brave Horse Music will honor Brazil with their own family friendly event that features a varied music program, dance, art, vendors and great food – the 2nd Annual Brazilian Cultural Festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of the rich culture of Brazil. The power of this music excites the emotions in subtle ways that are unsurpassed by any other music in the world

he headlining act will be The Fernando Brandão Sextet from Boston. Band leader Fernando, a Professor of Brazilian Music for 20 years at Berklee College of Music, is also a composer-arranger and flautist. He is a leading educator in Brazilian-Afro Cuban music styles and has published a play-along book by Advance Music. His own compositions have been recorded by Choro das Tres (our headliner last year), Guitarist Almir Cortes and the New World Guitar Trio. The band will consist of Daniel Ian Smith on Saxophone, Henrique Eisenmann on Piano, Fernando Huergo on bass, Bertram Lehmann on drums and will feature New York based Marcusiella Camargo, an alumni of Berklee, on vocals.

Also featured will be the drum corps from The Berkshire Bateria, a group known throughout New England for their energetic, rhythmic performances. The members of this group have studied extensively with samba masters in Salvadore, Bahia Brazil. Also performing is the local bossa nova band, Cla Da Bossa Nova, playing a mixture of modern Bossa Nova and Samba tunes. The band’s vocalist Brazilian born Rayssa Ribiero were just featured August 14th in the pre-show at “Pops By the Sea.” On the patio will be The Colors of Dream Band featuring singer Mariana Costa.

Courtesy of The Brazilian Roots Program at The Sturgis Charter School, will be Brazilian lawn games for children. A free Brazilian food tasting is being donated by The Brazilian Grill, Cape Cod’s premier restaurant for authentic Brazilian cuisine & New England and local merchants will have tables set up with their business information and Artisan crafts. Merchants will be available to discuss their work and sell their arts and crafts.

Tickets are $28. Food is included. Seating is cabaret style, inside and out and premium tables with wine are available.
