Monomoy Island Excursions in Harwichport MA

Monomoy Island Excursions is a family owned and operated business in Harwich, Cape Cod, Massachussets. For over 10 years we’ve been taking people out to Monomoy, a barrier island and wildlife refuge off the coast of Chatham, MA, where thousands of seals have made their home.

seal

While seals are the main attraction on our cruise, there is a lot more to see! We visit Wychmere Harbor, in Harwich Port. This is one of the most scenic harbors on the Cape! We also stop in to Stage Harbor in Chatham, where you get a close up view of Stage Harbor Lighthouse, and can catch a glimpse of Chatham Lighthouse. Not to mention the combination of large yachts, small sailboats, and various fishing boats that fill each harbor. You get a real taste of the sea life on Nantucket Sound.
We run seal cruises several times a day, generally lasting 1 1/2 hours. While we see lots of harbor seals and gray seals, Monomoy is also home to hundreds of species of birds and other wildlife. There is a trained naturalist on board who narrates the tour and can answer questions about the wildlife as well as the history of the island and the historic  Monomoy Lighthouse.

Taylor Bray Farm in Yarmouthport MA

The Taylor Bray Farm is located in Yarmouthport and is open to the public!  In 1639, the farm was founded by Richard “of the rock” Taylor while the land was still part of the historic  Plymouth colony. It remained in the Taylor family for many years until 1896, when the Bray brothers, who both worked on the farm for the Taylors, purchased the property.  In 1987 the farm was purchased by the town.  It is now run by the collaborative efforts of several preservation groups.  Today, the smaller 22 acre property is a working farm.  It has donkeys, goats, cattle, sheep and chickens.  Visit with the farm’s sheep, cows, chickens and donkeys.

Tour the historic restored & furnished Samuel Taylor Farm House. View an archaeology demo, display, and talk. Visit the animals and take a hayride. Built in 1957, the Wellfleet Drive-In hosts a 100′ x 44′ screen, and a state-of-the-art FM stereo sound system that decodes modern sound tracks. In many (but not all!) spots Mono original speakers are available for your nostalgic listening pleasure. There’s a playground and snack bar too! The Wellfleet Drive-In Theatre is open from late May through the weekend beyond Labor Day.

Wellfleet Drive-in Theatre, Cape Cod MA

You must plan to listen to the soundtrack through your car stereo on FM 89.5. Mono speakers are no longer 100% functional. Like lots of things from the 1950’s, some still work and some don’t! These are mostly for nostalgic purposes; the sound is much better through your radio. You should also use the accessory key position (see your car owners manual) instead of the on position, and turn off all other accessories including the a/c even though the engine isn’t running. Please know how to disable your car alarm as well. Please keep the sound to a reasonable volume, our neighbors need tranquility.
