The Hundred Acre School February Vacation Program Heritage Museums & Gardens, Sandwich

The Hundred Acre School at Heritage Museums & Gardens invites children ages 4 to 8 to participate in STEM-focused vacation week programs. During this session, students will explore how to use STEM tools for investigative purposes. Children will use the scientific method to design their own investigations, and learn how to select tools that will be most successful for answering their questions related to their hypotheses. Daily adventures outside in all types of weather add to the excitement of our day. The result will be lots of hands-on FUN!

First Night Chatham New Year Eve 2017-2018

First Night Chatham is a family-friendly, alcohol-free celebration of the Arts, with entertainment and activities for children and adults all day from noon until the midnight fireworks celebrated on New Years eve Sunday  December 31st.  First Night Chatham New Year Eve 2017-2018

Adult buttons (age 12 and up) are $20.00

Children’s buttons (ages 3-11) are $5.00

Children 2 and under: Free

The First Night Chatham button is required for admission to almost all indoor events, as well as some outdoor activities. There are also many Button-Free activities.

A favorite activity of many parents, too! Watch the kids show joy as they break the bubbles and make lots of noise!

Carnival Caper
A costumed road race, from the Chatham Squire to the Lighthouse and back, sponsored by the Chatham Squire. Register outside the Squire starting at 2 pm ($10); Costume judging at 2:30 pm; the race starts at 3 pm (a bit under 2 miles round-trip). Tee shirts and beef stew served at the Squire after the race! Spectators line Main Street to cheer on the runners, walkers, and anyone else parading down the road in costume.

This event is always very popular, so find your way here as soon as possible. Children craft fascinating stuff, each in their own way. Projects are all child friendly and designed with great creativity.

Early Fireworks at Veterans Field
Spectacular fireworks after the Noise Parade will be presented as a special treat for the young First Nighters. The show is at Veterans Field and viewing is from the parking lot and fields behind the Chatham Community Center.

Join First Night in recognizing Veterans of the 1960’s prior to the start of the fireworks.

Midnight Fireworks & Countdown Cod at Oyster Pond
The Countdown Cod is scheduled to drop as First Night Chatham counts down to the exact moment of 2018 from its perch high over the Oyster Pond park, and then signal the setting off of a wonderful midnight fireworks display! Come early for the best viewing spot over Oyster Pond and enjoy the pre-midnight fun.

New this year: Scott Hamilton will lead a sing-along Musical Countdown to Midnight. Stay warm waiting for the fireworks by joining Scott in a rousing series of fun songs that are familiar to all.

Horse-drawn Wagon Rides
Buttons are required to hop aboard a horses-drawn buggy with some other folks to enjoy an old fashioned perspective as you drive around town and wave to friends and strangers. Children love it, and we love seeing them enjoy the town!

Just For High School Teens: Canon Hill Band
The Canon Hill Band will perform this year at the Teen Center. Drop in to warm up, see friends, and enjoy free pizza and drinks, and listen to local high school students Ben Hayden on drums, guitarist/vocalist Logan Tichnor, and Vaughn Yerkes on bass. They can be frequently be seen busking on Main Streets of Chatham and Harwich in the summer, and they are the youngest band ever to be selected to play the Harwichport ‘Music Stroll’.

This year we have a full 9 holes available for play at the Middle School Small Gym – 1 to 6 pm and a full 9 holes at the Community Center Gym – 1 to 6 pm. Who does not love mini golf, especially in December!

New Year’s Eve Make Believe
Play a life-size game of Candy Land, and meet a real Belle, Cinderella and Bob the Minion (They will be here from 2:30 to 5:30). Take your picture with them in the photo booth.

Play life-sized Candyland – you are the game piece as you move along the giant board following the rules of Candyland. Be the first to the castle as you pass through the Peppermint Forest, meet Queen Frostine and her ice cream sea, and try to avoid The Villain of Candy Land, Lord Licorice. Candy prizes for all courtesy of Chatham Candy Manor.

Noise Parade – led by New England Pizza
Join the raucous fray! Make noise any way you want. Help celebrate New England Pizza’s 30th anniversary, and their support of the First Night Teen events.

A police escort leads the parade and no one will be cited for too much noise. Great fun for kids and adults, who often wear silly hats. Start at the corner of Cross and Main at 6 pm, walk to rotary, then continue on to the Chatham Community Center to see the early fireworks!

Rock ‘n’ Roll Racing
Rock’n’Roll Racing is a mini-Nascar race track where you drive a car from the side with a steering wheel and throttle. And 9-hole mini-golf is also here in the Middle School Gym.

The photo will be available at the Chatham CVS store for purchase. A panorama deep-zoom photo will also be posted on the First Night Chatham website. First Night in Sandwich New Years Eve 2017-2018

First Night Sandwich 2018, Sandwich Village “Town of Giants” will celebrate its sixth annual event on Saturday, December 31, 2017, from 4 to 9 pm.

This New Year’s Eve non-alcoholic family festival of the arts and multicultural activities, musical presentations, and live performances is located in venues both inside and outside in and around Sandwich Village. The community celebration of music, art and dance is open to all, from 4 to 9 PM. A Reveler’s Parade is held at 8 pm. Organizations that would like to march in the parade are asked to register on the Participate/Volunteer page. We welcome all to this great community event. There will be ice sculptures, children’s ice skating rink, lighted giants in the village and along Route 6A, children’s crafts, an enchanting fairy garden, jazz, blues, food vendors, storytelling, a Resolution Wall, Grand Finale Countdown with lighthouse, cannon fire, giant sparklers, and fireworks. The finale will be held at Town Hall, following the parade.

Adults $10, Children $10, Children under 3 are free

Haunted Houses and Halloween events Cape Cod 2017

Halloween will be here before you know it! Here are some haunted houses and not some not so scary haunted happening that will be happening on Cape Cod!

Saturday October 14th

YMCA fall festival 

Join YMCA Cape Cod for some family fun including crafts, games, healthy snacks, pumpkin carving and so much more! Come dressed in your Halloween costume and get a free spin on our special prize wheel!  $5 per person | $20 per family

Friday October 27th

Brewster Ladies Library Halloween Parade 10am 

Come celebrate Halloween at the Brewster Ladies’ Library! All ages are invited. Wear your costume! We will have a Halloween parade, walk over to the Brewster Store, stop for songs with Cathy Hatch, and then head to Kinlin Grover Real Estate for snacks.This event will take place on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Brewster Ladies’ Library. Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend.

Trunk or Treat  First Congregational Church of Yarmouth 5pm

Join us for our 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat located in our upper parking lot. Additional parking in our lower parking lot and across the street behind the fire dept. building. Safe street crossing will be assisted by lit up trucks and traffic cones.Come trick or treat, or come to set up your own trunk beginning at 4pm. Please avoid scary costumes, as we are encouraging even the youngest of trick-or-treaters!!!

Cape Cod Museum of Natural History Green Halloween

Yarmouth Seaside Festival Columbus Day Weekend 2017

The 39th  annual Yarmouth Seaside Festival will be held on Columbus Day weekend Saturday, October 7through Monday, October 9th . Festival events take place all over Yarmouth, but most are held at .Joshua Sears Memorial Field There will be a craft fair, road race, parade, canoe race, sand sculpting, fireworks and lots of fun, games, rides, food and entertainment.

AD Makepeace Cranberry Harvest Celebration 2017 in Wareham MA

The  14th annual AD Makepeace Cranberry Harvest Celebration will be held on Columbus Day weekend Saturday October 7th and Sunday October 8th  10-4pm! It is a great family friendly event!  Rain or shine event AD Makepeace Cranberry Harvest Celebration 2017 in Wareham MA

The Cranberry Harvest Celebration is a great way to see and learn about the picturesque cranberry harvest while enjoying some old fashioned family fun. Watch as we harvest the crimson berries continuously each day. Visit educational and historical displays, view the spectacular landscape and harvest by taking a helicopter ride, enjoy live cooking demonstrations by some of the area’s finest chefs and culinary professionals, shop the marketplace with over 40 juried exhibitors from around the region, listen to local musicians, and peruse the farmers’ market and food concession areas for the best fare around. Returning this year, you can put on a pair of waders and stand in a bog full of cranberries! Children’s activities include pony, paddle boat, train, live entertainment, wagon rides and much more.

Visitors to the Harvest Celebration, which is co-sponsored by the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers’ and Ocean Spray, are treated to demonstrations of the wet cranberry harvest, cooking demonstrations, an enormous tent full of juried crafters, paddleboat rides on scenic Tihonet Pond, food vendors, music, and more.

Admission is $10, $5 for seniors and military, and children under 7 are admitted free. Admission includes continuous viewing of our wet harvest operations, animal demonstrations, live music, cooking demonstrations, and many children’s activities. Some activities have fees and others are available by donation to the non-profit organizations that offer them. A portion of the admission fees go to local nonprofit organizations that help staff the event and to local food pantries. Parking and shuttle transportation are free. With the exception of service animals, pets and other animals are not allowed.

Harwich Cranberry Festival Beach Day 2017

The Harwich Cranberry Festival Beach Day for kids  is  Saturday  September 9, 2017 from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm at Red River Beach in South Harwich MA.  Rain date is Sunday Sept 10th

Featuring Magician Sean Burke, Sparky’s Old-Time Hay Rides, farm animal display courtesy of the Cakounes Family, the Barnstable County Fire Safety Van and Cape Cod African Dance and Drum. Touch-a-truck, face and nail painting, arts and crafts, sand sculpting contest for everyone and a decorate-your-bike contest for children 10 and under.

Truro Agricultural Fair 2017

Truro Agricultural Fair 2017 will be held on Sunday September 3rd  from 10-3pm.  

The Truro Ag Fair showcases the Cape’s history, the foods currently grown and harvested, and connects the health of our local food system to our physical health, environment and future. Step back in time and appreciate all that the Cape has to offer: great food, great community and a gorgeous environment we all can support!

The fair is free and open to the public and includes harvest contests as well as pie-eating, pie-baking and barnyard beauty contests. BYO zucchini racecar for our 24’ long Zucchini 500 racetrack (judging starts at noon)! Fiddlers bands play all day; we offer old-fashioned kids games and art-making tables, turnip and rutabaga bowling and lots, lots more.
