Multicultural Festival of Cape Cod 2016 in West Barnstable MA

The community is strongly encouraged to be in the Tilden Arts Center at 10 a.m. to view the vibrant opening, as our venerable bagpiper Roger Carchrie-Feltus, who comes each year from Connecticut to join in the event, leads the Parade of Flags into the Tilden Arts Center. Once each group has arrived, participants will greet the crowd in the native language and dress, inviting all back into the festival grounds for the day’s activities.

Special activities for children are an important part of the festival. Face painting plus children’s storytelling, and a “Passport” will be available for young people to use as they visit displays and vendors from all over the world. Stickers or a stamped imprint will be provided at each table so that children can fill their Passports and take home this unique souvenir.

List of Participants

  • ShinDaiko Drums – Japan – the Festival is very excited to bring these outstanding performers to the Cape for the first time!
  • Los Hijos del Sol – Ecuador – spectacular dancers of “the Sun” who explode across the stage in color and energy!
  • Kadija and Troupe Isis – Egypt – rhythmically blend movement and story together in this ancient style of color and grace
  • Haley School of Irish Dance – Ireland – are annual favorites in this beautifully choreographed “step-dancing” style
  • Cape Cod African Dance and Drum – Their name says it all – and the entire audience often joins them on stage!
  • Rancho Folclorico De Santo Antonio – Azores/Portugal – This amazing troupe of musicians and dancers both educate and entertain as they demonstrate a style of folk dancing that in some ways appears similar to American square dancing and yet, is truly their own. Beautifully costumed and choreographed, they are wonderful to watch.
  • Candida Rose – Cape Verde‘s outstanding vocal performer of classic Jazz shaped by the essence of her beautiful culture!
  • Brenda Kashi – Persian Dancer who “speaks” with every movement – truly an extraordinary performer to enjoy!
  • Universal Sound – Brazil – This ensemble brings rhythms and songs that fill the audience with joy. Often dancing just breaks out within the crowd!
  • Bevin Stark – India – East Indian Dance is performed in the most precise and classic style – beautifully choreographed and splendidly expressed in this culture’s most dramatic art form.
  • Zion Union Church Women of Praise/Creative Worship Team – This Team, while steeped in African-American traditions brings true cross cultural expression. Their “performance” is truly their Praise infectiously shared with everyone!
  • African Drum Workshop with Issa Coulibaly – Master Drummer Issa Coulibaly brings his energy to Festival, and educates as he and his group entertains as well. You will learn but it’s unlikely that you still stand still!
  • Catherine Zhao – Ryley Xiong – Jojo Qiao … These outstanding Taiwanese musicians come to us from Cape Cod Academy and bring incredible performance on traditional Chinese instruments, and classical dance as well. We always enjoy what they bring to us.
  • ATA Martial Arts of Sandwich – Certified Taekwondo 4th Degree Black Belt Instructor Tony Rambert brings his students to demonstrate the grace and discipline in this ancient art that blends mind and body into an amazing singularity.
  • Capoeira – Brazil – “Capoeirista” Bernie Macedo brings this combination of dance, aerobatics, and music, developed in Brazil by those of West African descent, sometime in the 16th century. Some see it as a game or competition, others see it as a Brazilian Martial Art. It is dramatic and powerful to watch. In 2014, UNESCO granted it special protected status as an “intangible cultural heritage” of Brazil.
  • Ron Williams – Afro-American Musical Review – Ron brings his guitar and his voice throughout the Festival and collects a crowd wherever he goes. Often he’s seen in the International Marketplace and loves the energy surrounded by the “goods and people of the world.”
  • St. George Dance Troupe – This group of dancers from the Greek Orthodox Church of Cape Cod, preserves the classic Greek dances that come to mind when one thinks of the movie “Zorba.” But, more than just dance them, they help the audience understand the significance to their history and culture.

Food Trucks

  • Big Daddy’s – Cape Verdean
  • Yumm Bai – Asian
