Day 129 Yarmouth Summer Celebration Kick off week

The second annual “Yarmouth Summer Celebration Kick-Off” is taking place over from Sunday  June 24 – Friday  29, 2012, and our team of professional sand sculptors will be creating customized two-ton sculptures for local businesses. Thus far, some twenty-six businesses have committed to our sand sculpting program, which is one of the many activities to be staged during this weeklong event. Other activities include “kite fun,” a fishing derby, sailboat regatta, ice cream “chill-off” sampling, nature strolls, sand sculpting contests, Latin dance demonstration and “feets-on workshop”, Y-D Red Sox home games, an evening beach festival with food, beverages, and music, and, last but not least, a fireworks finale set to music at the Dennis – Yarmouth High School ball fields.

A “Celebration” map and program will designate the location of the individual business sculptures, including, of course, the three large sculptures that will be created at Bass River Beach this year. A “Sand Sculpture Scavenger Hunt” contest will be staged for visitors and residents alike to photograph the many sculptures and post these pictures to our Facebook page. A drawing will be held on Labor Day. The drawing grand prize is two nights at a Yarmouth lodging property including breakfast and dinner daily, which will be awarded to the individual or family who has created the best portfolio of sculpture photographs. Several runner-up prizes will also be awarded for those who may not have a chance to visit every piece of sand art. When taking photographs, we hope our visitors will let their creative energies flow. The drawing will be held on Labor Day.

The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox is the non-profit host of this event and Captain Parker’s Chowder Company is the presenting sponsor. Join our “sand box” this coming June … it’s time to play!

The Yarmouth Summer Celebration is made possible, in part, with a grant from the Town of Yarmouth’s  Tourism Revenue Preservation Fund.
