Day 241 Wellfleet 250th Anniversary Celebration 2013

Wellfleet is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year (1763-2013).    The 250th Anniversary Committee is planning events for Founder’s Week—9 days of festivities, August 2 through August 10,  as well as “keeping the calendar” of anniversary events created by  individuals, businesses, community and civic associations, and  local non-profit organizations.

 

Founders Week is August 6 through 10.

  • Friday, August 2 – 7pm, Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival Concert, a tribute to Van Cliburn, tickets $35, Wellfleet Congregational Church, 200 Main Street
  • Saturday, August 3 – 9am-noon. May Beach Field Day for Children at Baker’s Field, free
  • Saturday, August 3 – Wellfleet Art Gallery Evening Stroll
  • Sunday, August 4 – 10am, ecumenical service, Wellfleet Congregational Church, 200 Main Street
  • Sunday, August 4 – 4pm & 7:30pm, “Our Town: Billingsgate becomes Wellfleet”, free, open to all. Wellfleet Congregational Church, 200 Main Street
  • Monday, August 5 – 10am, Official Commemoration of Wellfleet’s 250th Anniversary, lawn of the town hall, Main Street
  • Tuesday, August 6 – 7pm-8pm, Cape Cod Sea Chantey Performance, tickets $10, Wellfleet United Methodist Church, 246 Main Street
  • August 6-9 – 250th Anniversary Postal Cancelation, at the Post Office on Route 6
  • Wednesday, August 7 – 7pm-10pm, New England Square and Contra Dances at the Wellfleet Town Pier. If rain, dances will be held at the Wellfleet Elementary School, 100 Lawrence Road, Wellfleet
  • August 7-10 – 7:30pm. The Billingsgate Project, world premiere by Brenda Withers. Original play. Tickets $20. Harbor Stage Company, 15 Kendrick Ave.
  • Thursday, August 8 – Wellfleet All Class Reunion (1939-2013). See town site for details
  • Thursday, August 8 – 7:30pm, Dr. Eric R. Kandel, Friends of the Wellfleet Library, distinguished speaker. $20. Wellfleet Congregational Church, 200 Main Street
  • Friday, August 9 – dusk, free. Wellfleet: 250 Years in Images by Eben Portnoy, Outdoor screening of video. Wellfleet Marina.
  • Saturday, August 10 – 11:30am-1pm. Wellfleet on the Water Boat Parade, Town Pier
  • Saturday, August 10 – 1:30pm, informal sailboat races, Chequsesett Yacht and Country Club
  • Saturday, August 10 – after dark, FIREWORKS over Wellfleet Harbor, rain date August 11
