First Night Chatham New Year Eve 2019-20

First Night Chatham is a family-friendly, alcohol-free celebration of the Arts, with entertainment and activities for children and adults all day from noon until the midnight fireworks celebrated on New Years eve Tuesday  December 31st

Adult buttons (age 12 and up) are $22.00
Children’s buttons (ages 3-11) are $5.00Children 2 and under: FreeThe First Night Chatham button is required for admission to almost all indoor events, as well as some outdoor activities. There are also many Button-Free activities. .

Bubble Wrap Stomp
A favorite activity of many parents, too! Watch the kids show joy as they break the bubbles and make lots of noise!

Carnival Caper
A costumed road race, from the Chatham Squire to the Lighthouse and back, sponsored by the Chatham Squire. Register outside the Squire starting at 2 pm ($10); Costume judging at 2:30 pm; the race starts at 3 pm (a bit under 2 miles round-trip). Tee shirts and beef stew served at the Squire after the race! Spectators line Main Street to cheer on the runners, walkers, and anyone else parading down the road in costume.

Challenge! Trivia for Teens & Tweens
EPL favorite Brett “Ooch” Outchcunis and his brother Nik will host their unique spin on trivia – high tech, interactive, and loads of fun – for tweens and teens in grades 5 to 12. (Prizes provided by the Eldredge Public Library)

First Night Chatham is a celebration of the arts. Join some of our local poets of all ages for a lively and entertaining reading their own poetry. A First Night Chatham tradition that provides a respite from the noise of the night.

A group of handbell ringers from the Chatham and Harwich Congregational Churches will ring in the New Year, playing patriotic, folk and classic songs.

Early Fireworks at Veterans Field
Spectacular fireworks after the Noise Parade will be presented as a special treat for the young and young-at-heart. The show is at Veterans Field and viewing is from the parking lot and fields behind the Chatham Community Center.

Midnight Fireworks at Oyster Pond
First Night Chatham counts down to the exact moment 2020 starts with the countdown display, and a wonderful display of midnight fireworks! There are no bad seats for viewing the spectacular display over Oyster Pond – in fact, there are no seats at all, unless you watch from your car, or from your front porch. Join the crowd for a rousing finale to First Night Chatham that’s way more fun than being in Times Square!

Free For High School Teens
Hear Cape Conservatory C Rock Band and get Cape Cod Henna Body Art. Enjoy free pizza, snacks and beverages in the game room. Band members are Anna Barnocky, Drums, Sturgis Charter Public School East Campus; Christopher Esdale, Guitar and Vocals, Sandwich High School; Liam Flynn, Guitar and Vocals, Barnstable High School; Lucca MacDonald, Bass and Vocals, Falmouth Academy.

Ice Carving by Chip Koser
Ice sculptor Chip Koser carves a beautiful sculpture from large blocks of ice. In 2011, Chip and his team took home a bronze medal at the World Ice Art Championship held in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Monomoy Seven
Dixieland Jazz – a perennial favorite! With Jeff Hughes on cornet leading the band, you’ll hear lots of swinging improvisations on familiar and maybe not so familiar tunes, with each musician featured on specialty numbers, and on requested tunes from the audience. This is always a fun and exciting performance, so come and sit awhile, and prepare to enjoy some hot jazz to warm the chilly night!

Noise Parade – led by The Atwood House Museum
Join the raucous fray! Led this year by The Atwood House Museum. Make noise any way you want.

A police escort leads the parade and no one will be cited for too much noise. Great fun for kids and adults, who often wear silly hats. Start at the corner of Cross and Main at 6 pm, walk to rotary, then continue on to the Chatham Community Center to see the early fireworks!

The Placeholders
The Placeholders are a fresh, young, talented four-piece rock band from Harwich & Chatham. They play impressive rock covers from the 60’s through today, with quality harmonies and song arrangements, many featuring the Hammond organ. They’re all students of either music or production. You will be captivated and pleasantly surprised not only with their musicianship but also with the sound and production. The band has played on the Main Street programs of both Harwich and Chatham, and headlined their own TD Bank concert series show at Brooks Park in Harwich.

The Reunion Band
Known for its tight vocal harmonies and solid traditional bluegrass sound, the Reunion Band features veteran Boston-area musicians Boston-area musicians Richard Brown (mandolin), Dave Dillon (rhythm guitar), Margaret Gerteis (acoustic bass), Laura Orshaw (fiddle) and most recently BB Bowness (banjo) . The band, which has been around since 2002, takes its name from the fact that the members have played together off and on and in various configurations for over 30 years.
